Changing Your Name or Address

Question: I've legally changed my name. Who do I need to notify regarding my Medicare coverage?

Answer: If you’ve legally changed your name, you'll need to change it with Medicare, Alight Retiree Health Solutions and your health insurance company.

Name changes with Medicare

When you change your name, you’ll need to get a new Social Security Card. There are several ways to request a new card:

  • Visit your local Social Security office.
  • Change your name online.
  • Call and ask for help updating your name.

The Social Security name change page can help you decide the best way to make your request. After you make the request, Social Security will mail you a new card for free.

Name changes with Alight

If your name changes, you'll need to do two things to notify us:

  1. Log in to your Alight account and change it in your account profile.
  2. Contact your retirement benefits administrator.

This will ensure that your information is changed in both systems. You can also contact us for help.

Please note that we cannot accept name changes via email.

Notify your insurance company

You should also contact your insurance company to change your name. Call the number on your member ID card or visit their website.

Question: I've moved. How do I change my address or other contact information?

Answer: If you’ve moved, you'll need to change your address with Medicare, Alight and your health insurance company.

Address changes with Medicare

To change your address or other contact information with Medicare, you have to contact Social Security, even if you don’t get Social Security benefits. Be sure to change your address as soon as it’s effective so that you can receive Medicare communications.

You can either change your address on the Social Security website or by calling 1 (800) 772-1213. If you’re deaf or hard of hearing, call TTY 1 (800) 325-0778.

Address changes with Alight

If your address or other contact information changes, you’ll need to do two things:

  1. Log in to your Alight account and change it in your account profile.
  2. Contact your retirement benefits administrator.

This will ensure that your information is changed in both systems. You can also contact us for help. If you move to an address outside your plan’s service area, you may qualify for a special enrollment period. Find out more.
