Ask the Benefits Advisor

Is my current plan right for me?

Question: How do you know when it's time for new coverage?

Answer: If you’ve been in the same Medicare plan for a few years or your health needs have changed, it might be time to review your options. Our online plan comparison tool can help you do a “plan checkup” to see if your plan is still a good fit for you. It’s the same powerful tool our licensed Benefits Advisors use.

These questions may help you decide if you should reconsider your coverage:

  • Have your doctors or medications changed since you first enrolled in Medicare?
  • Has the way you use your plan changed? For example, do you go to the doctor more (or less), have more diagnostic tests, or go to the hospital more?
  • Do you travel more or less than when you selected your plan?
  • Has your plan premium increased significantly since you enrolled?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, it might be time to compare your plan with others to see if there’s something else that might better fit your needs.

Question: When can you change plans?

Answer: If you have a Medicare Supplement plan, you can change it any time during the year. If you’re enrolled in Medicare Advantage or a prescription drug plan, you’ll have to wait until Open Enrollment, October 15-December 7, to make changes. *

Alight’s plan recommendation tool can help you compare plans, see prices and enroll online. When you log in, you can compare your current plan to other options that are available and see if there’s a better fit.
