TURNING 65/Initial Enrollment Period You qualify for Medicare, also known as Original Medicare, when you turn age 65. There is a 7-month window to enroll in Part A (hospital insurance) and/or Part B (medical insurance) which begins 3 months before the month you turn 65, the month you turn 65, and up to 3 months after the month you turn 65. If your birthday is on the first of the month, your 7-month window begins 4 months before you turn 65 and ends 2 months after your birth month.
