Enhance Your Online Account Security

Stay safe online by following these helpful tips

Your account security is very important to Alight. We want to provide you with tips on keeping your online accounts safe from fraud. Here are some steps you can take to protect yourself.

Creating a strong password

One of the best ways to keep your online accounts safe is by creating a strong password. Follow these tips to make sure your passwords are strong and secure:

  • Avoid simple passwords: Don’t use easy-to-guess passwords like "123ABC" or common information about you such as your name, birthday, or phone number.
  • Length matters: Make your password at least 16 characters long. The longer, the stronger.
  • Mix it up: Use a random combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
  • Unique passwords: Make each password unique. You should have a different password for every account.
  • Use a password manager: A password manager can create and store strong passwords for you.

If you want to create a stronger password for your Alight account, log in and go to My Profile, scroll to About Me, and select Change my password.

Two-step verification and your Alight account

Two-step verification helps protect your account against fraud by requiring a 6-digit code in addition to your password. You may already be familiar with two-step verification, as many banks and retailers use it when you log in to their website or app.

When you log in to your Alight account, you’ll receive a prompt to verify it’s you. Then, follow the steps to receive your 6-digit code. We can send it to you by text message, email, phone call, or through the Google Authenticator app.

You can choose how often you use two-step verification: either every time you log in (we recommend this), or only if we detect an unknown device or internet browser logging in to your account. You can change your settings anytime through your Alight account.

We’ve created a short video that explains how two-step verification works. You can also contact us if you need additional assistance.

Additional tips for online security
  • Be cautious with emails and messages: If you receive an email or message from an unknown sender, do not click on any links or download attachments. Scammers often use these tactics to steal your information.
  • Keep your software up to date: Make sure your computer, smartphone, and other devices have the latest software updates. These updates often include important security fixes.
  • Use antivirus software: Install and regularly update antivirus software on your devices to protect against malware and other threats.
  • Be mindful of public Wi-Fi: Avoid accessing sensitive accounts, such as your bank account, over public Wi-Fi networks. These networks can be less secure and more susceptible to hackers.
  • Monitor your accounts regularly: Check your bank and credit card statements regularly for any suspicious activity. If you notice anything unusual, report it immediately.
